Exterior work is nearing completion on 167 Chrystie Street, a 16-story residential building on Manhattan’s Lower East Side. Designed by ODA Architects, the 77,000-square-foot, 170-foot-tall structure will yield 78 units, averaging 680 square feet apiece, as well as 4,600 square feet of ground-floor retail space. Permits were filed by the Arava Group in August 2018 and Be-Aviv and Nexus Building Development Group, Inc. are developing the project, which is located between Rivington Street to the north and Delancey Street to the south. Sara D. Roosevelt Park lies across Chrystie Street to the east.

Photographs show the black netting and metal scaffolding on the main eastern elevation facing Chrystie Street in the process of coming down, exposing the building’s striking modern fenestration, a slight departure from what was revealed in the main rendering. We can now appreciate the staggered set of curved glass panels and pocketed terraces that are found on nearly every level. On the upper levels are a few setbacks below a mechanical extension enclosed in opaque white panels.

167 Chrystie Street is the tallest of a trio of ODA-designed buildings that line Chrystie Street. The other two are the completed 165 Chrystie Street to the immediate south, and 173 Chrystie Street that is also under construction and sits topped out directly to the north.

167 Chrystie Street’s residential amenities include a fitness center, laundry, sauna, pet spa, bicycle storage, an outdoor recreation space on the second floor with a conjoined reading room, and an outdoor rooftop garden. The nearest subways are the J and Z trains at the Bowery station, while the F train is found on Second Avenue along East Houston Street.

Development is slated to be finished next winter, as stated on the construction board.
